Highgate Elementary School recently hosted their first annual “Highgate Husky Golf Classic” at Seven Oaks Country Club. The goal of the Husky Golf Classic is to raise money to provide needed school items like shade structures, additional trees, sports equipment and team jerseys, and to give students the opportunity to attend exciting field trips like Camp KEEP.
The first Highgate Husky Golf Classic helped to accomplish these goals and more. With the support of many local organizations and companies, such as Castle & Cooke, and the participation of 143 golfers, the inaugural event was a great success and raised over $6,000 for the items the school needed!
Brandi Bazemore, President of the Highgate Parent Club shared, “The tournament was an overall great event. The outpouring of support from the community, local businesses, and parents, was truly appreciated by the teachers and staff at Highgate Elementary. We had amazing raffle prizes, a huge turnout of golfers, fun contests throughout the day, and a long-drive pro who gave golfers the opportunity to win a trip to Pebble beach.”
Following the successful Highgate Husky Golf Classic was the Highgate Elementary School Dedication. This special event allowed the district to come together as a community and dedicate the opening of Highgate Elementary at the end of its first school year. The Highgate Husky band and choir performed for guests and the accomplishments of the first school year were celebrated. Many great attendees from all of Kern County such as Keith Woolridge, Board Trustee member, Mary Barlow, Superintendent of Kern County, and many others, showed their support for Highgate Elementary School and its students.
